前言

Introduction to TOEFL iBT

TOEFL iBT (internet-based TOEFL) is designed to measure how well non-native speakers of English read, listen, speak, and write in English. The test has four secti***: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Each section of the test is worth 30 points and the highest possible score on the iBT is 120 points (30 points x 4 secti***). Most questi*** are worth 1 point each, but some of the questi*** in each section are worth more than 2 points.

Speaking Section

In the speaking section, there are a total of 6 different types of tasks. Therefore, test takers will be asked to answer 6 tasks in 20 minutes. The first two tasks are independent tasks that involve only speaking. The other four tasks are integrated tasks, in which the test taker is required to answer the question based on only the listening passage or both the reading and listening passages.

It is also important to know the description of each task in order to understand the point.

Winning TOEFL Speaking series

It c***ists of eight units and an actual test. Each unit is divided into two tasks: an independent task and an integrated task. Each task in every unit is classified in a different color. The independent task is in green and the integrated task is in orange. Both tasks include one practice section and one test section. This book is for beginner-level students, so it is slightly easier than the original passages seen

on the actual TOEFL.

Introduction

Target TOEFL iBT Question

This part introduces what types of question students will deal with in this unit. Each unit focuses on the following types of TOEFL iBT speaking questi***:

Key Expressi***

This is the first part of the task. Students are provided with some key expressi*** that should be learned in advanced to complete the task. With those key expressi*** in mind, students are asked to do Let's Practice. This can be done individually o***ith a partner depending on circumstances.

Practice

(1) Get Started

This part functi*** as a warming-up activity. This helps students to understand new words and expressi*** that will be used in order to do the next part. Students are asked to do most of the vocabulary activities and have some fun at the beginning.

(2) Get Ready

Independent Task

This part functi*** as a guiding activity that helps the student to answer the TOEFL iBT question. Students are required to ask and answer some light questi*** that are all related to the TOEFL iBT question. These questi*** and Practice Speaking boxes are to encourage students to closely follow the sample resp***e.

Integrated Task

This part functi*** as a guiding activity that helps the student to answer the TOEFL iBT question. Students are required to perform a dictation, note-taking and some comprehension checking. These questi*** and Practice Speaking boxes are to encourage students to closely follow the sample resp***e.

(3) Speak Up

Students are asked to combine all of the resp***es they have learned in Practice Speaking boxes. They should be able to reach the ideal resp***e due to the guided processes they have gone through.

Check Your Resp***e

A sample resp***e has been recorded by native speakers. Students are asked to listen to this sample resp***e and to take notes on this. This will help students with both their listening and note-taking skills.

Test

This is the last part of the task. Students are given a TOEFL iBT question and are asked to create their own resp***e. Provided with some idea tips and key expressi***, students are encouraged to make an outline and create their own resp***e. They are asked to time how long it takes to answer the question.

Actual Test

Six tasks are provided as an actual test. The test questi*** contain longer reading and listening passages that are similar to the real TOEFL iBT questi***, so that students will be able to have an overall view on the real TOEFL iBT questi***.
